The Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) program, also known as Section 8, assists eligible low-income families or individuals in obtaining affordable, decent, sanitary, and safe housing in Tucson. Rent is based on the household's income. The portion of rent paid by the Housing Authority is paid directly to the landlord and the participant pays the difference of the contract rent to the landlord directly.
Participant portion of the rent is generally around 30% of monthly gross income. When an applicant is selected off the waitlist, they will be interviewed to determine exactly what their portion of the rent will be.
If you are a voucher holder and are either moving to or from Tucson, there are opportunities to transfer your voucher to your new city or home.
